    Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is seeking a Data Technician within the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.  The Data Technician will be expected to support the information needs of the growing medical school. This will include developing, implementing, querying, and maintaining several databases of variable degree of complexity. Databases may include those needed for surveys, student projects, publicly available, and for research.

    Responsibilities

    • Assists the Database Specialist in specific projects, and is also responsible for the execution of an assigned portfolio of projects
    • Provide support to faculty, residents, students, and staff in the use of WMed databases, working with IT to provide technical assistance and troubleshooting
    • Monitor and maintain integrity of database(s) through regular quality checks and enforcement of WMed policies regarding database management
    • Provide faculty and staff with necessary training to input and extract data
    • Monitor access to and security of database(s)
    • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions
    • Design and prepare various query-based reports as required
    • Availability to work occasionally overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects
    • All other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel, Access, and Word
    • Familiarity with relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and Standard Query Language (SQL)
    • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Associate Degree preferred.
    • Working knowledge of low-to-mid complexity REDCap databases (design, implementation, querying, reporting)
    • Related experience and/or certifications are desired

WMed is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) for continuing medical education. The School of Medicine Clinics are housed in a modern 60,000 square foot clinical building on the Oakland Drive Campus and are accredited by The Joint Commission with recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including a state-of-the-art Simulation Center and two laboratory research floors. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with subsidized, low-cost laboratory, office and conference space, high quality scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
