    The Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a board-certified or board-eligible pediatrician to join its busy general pediatric practice. The faculty will have a full-time academic appointment in the department, which has 20 full-time faculty and 70 community faculty. The faculty must meet the requirements for academic appointment at assistant professor rank or higher. The pediatric residency program is a fully accredited program with all subspecialty care and tertiary care capabilities. There are 24 residents and 16 medicine-pediatrics residents.

    Responsibilities

    This faculty will join a diverse team of six general pediatricians and will have clinical, research, and teaching responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic and research interests to fully participate in the education of our medical students and residents, and collaborate with faculty and the community at large. In addition to supervising resident clinics, the faculty will also participate in a faculty practice. Active participation in medical school, department, and residency duties are expected. There are excellent opportunities for clinical research in collaboration with the Center for Clinical Research at WMed. This faculty position will have 60% time dedicated to clinical/research/ teaching activities as assigned by the department chair; and 40% time allocated to the role of Scholar-Advisor for medical students.

     

    Serving as one of a group of 12 physicians, the Clinical Skills Scholar-Learning Community Advisors spend one-half day a week each with first- and second-year medical students teaching clinical skills including communication skills, history taking, physical examination, and simple procedures. The Scholar-Advisors also provide group and individual student mentoring and advising for the four student Learning Communities. The successful candidate will have a passion for education of medical students and residents. Scholar-Advisors work with the entire educational and Student Affairs team to develop and sustain activities that help students achieve the competencies in the domain of Personal and Professional Development. Scholar-Advisors facilitate student wellness and provide coaching, mentoring, academic advising, and career advising.

    Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine offers competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits. This faculty position includes a full-time academic appointment in the department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience. The candidate must be eligible for full licensure to practice in Michigan.
