    Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is seeking a Director of Continuing Education. 

     

    Responsibilities

    Responsible for providing:

     

    The Director of Continuing Education (CE) oversees a highly specialized unit that impacts physician and other health care providers learning, performance, and patient health outcomes.  CE is an integral part of health system continuous quality improvement program; as such, the CE office has the ability to impact the improvement of the patient experience; improving the health of populations; and reducing the per capita cost of health care.

     

    Reporting to the Associate Dean of Educational Affairs, the Director provides the strategic and operational leadership for the School’s overall CE program and represents the school at the local, regional, state, national and international level.

     

    The Director provides leadership and collaborates regularly with all departments on all matters related to continuing education among health care providers in the region.  The CE office is the starting point for continuing education at the University and at the affiliate level.  The CE office is responsible for assisting in the enablement of Interprofessional Education opportunities. 

     

    The CE office is the accredited provider for physician education for WMED, Bronson Health and Borgess Healthcare.  The Director is expected to provide programmatic leadership and relationship management to meet the healthcare education needs of our healthcare partners.

     

    Qualifications

    • An advanced degree in instructional design, instructional technology, educational psychology, education, public health, healthcare administration, business or related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience working in a university, continuing education unit while managing people and working on compliance matters is preferred. Backgrounds with similar levels of complexity and work dynamics will be considered.
    • Certified Healthcare CPD Professional (CHCP) certification required including maintenance.  If candidate does not hold at time of initial employment, will attain upon hiring.
    • Willingness to work with the Michigan State Medical Society, Joint Accreditation Review Committee (Joint ARC), and other accrediting bodies as may be identified to learn the accreditation elements of CE for healthcare providers in order to design and/or approve activities learners at WMed and its affiliates need to continue their license and staffing privileges.
    • Knowledge of the Joint Accreditation requirements necessary for CE accreditation.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple task, and develop and shift priorities as needed.

The medical school is a collaboration of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo's two teaching hospitals, Ascension Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare. WMed has Joint Accreditation for interprofessional continuing education, which incorporates accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). The School of Medicine Clinics are housed in a modern 60,000 square foot clinical building on the Oakland Drive Campus and are accredited by The Joint Commission with recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
