    Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is seeking an Admissions & Student Life Coordinator.  Responsible for providing support to the Assistant Dean of Admissions and Student Life in the areas of undergraduate medical education admissions and student life.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides support to the Admissions Office related to the management of day-to-day operations of Admissions including recruitment, selection, and admissions processes for the MD program as well as MS programs.
    • Provides support to the Student Life Office in the areas of Student Organizations, Interest Groups, career and personal advising, and assist with large event planning including White Coat Ceremony, Match Day, Awards, and Graduation.
    • Coach and provide support to students experiencing all levels of academic and non-academic concerns, problems, and questions. Identify and triage concerns, refer to the appropriate available resources, initiate contact and engage relevant referral sources, offer encouragement and support to students, and ensure that assistance has been made available.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds to promote inclusiveness and embrace diversity.
    • Assists in deployment of student recruitment strategies including representing WMed at recruitment events locally.
    • Assist with medical student interview days.
    • Assist with the processing of application materials.
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive set of social, cultural, and educational student programs to foster student wellness and success.
    • Provide support for events organized by students.
    • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects or assist with events.
    • Member of the WMed social media team.
    • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree along with experience in admission, student affairs, college student counseling, higher education, or higher education administration, or event planning.
    • Prior experience with graduate level student population is preferred.
    • Prior experience with admissions tracking software is preferred.
    • Ability to build relationships in an inclusive environment with students of all backgrounds.
    • Must be detail oriented with a high level of energy, integrity and enthusiasm.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to think critically and work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to plan, organize and meet competing deadlines.
    • Knowledge and proficiency in word processing and file management using Word, Powerpoint, Excel, multi-media tools, electronic communications, and web searching as well as and other software as required by the department.

The medical school is a collaboration of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo's two teaching hospitals, Ascension Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare. The School of Medicine Clinics are housed in a modern 60,000 square foot clinical building on the Oakland Drive Campus and are accredited by The Joint Commission with recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
