    Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is seeking On-Call EMS Specialists within our Emergency Medicine Program.  Responsible for providing the implementation of readiness strategies for the MI-TESA (Michigan Transportable Emergency Surge Assistance) II Medical Unit and Regional assets under the ASPR Hospital Preparedness Project.  Works collaboratively with TESA staff members during field deployments to oversee operations and provide logistics support to system and technical training on infrastructure equipment.  Supervises emergency preparedness and technical staff to ensure maintenance and readiness of equipment for MI-TESA and also Region 5 equipment deployment.  Oversees the environment of work to ensure work is performed safely and with injury prevention in mind. 



    • Acts as team leader in the deployment and set-up of mobile field hospital.
    • Supervises the work and activities of Emergency Preparedness Assistants to accomplish preparation and assigned missions.
    • Ensures logistics support for Regional educational programs; simulation; and equipment training and deployment.
    • Performs basic in-service on durable medical equipment for disaster medical personnel.
    • Facilitates the education of residents, medical students and other healthcare disciplines.
    • Coordinates non-medical mission of mobile field hospital, when deployed.
    • All other duties as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferred.
    • Five years’ experience in emergency preparedness/response setting.
    • Experience in supervision, instruction and training of personnel.
    • Experience in the direction of others during collaborative team-based activities.
    • Current Michigan Driver’s License.
    • MFTC FF 1 and 2.
    • Current Michigan EMS license (Medical First Responder or higher).
    • BCLS certification
    • NIMS ICS 100/200/700/800

The School of Medicine Clinics are housed in a modern 60,000 square foot clinical building on the Oakland Drive Campus and are accredited by The Joint Commission with recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
