  • Overview

     

    Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is seeking a Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator. 

    Under the direction of the director of Communications, assists in advancing the goals, objectives, and activities of the Office of Communications. Responsible for developing and implementing the medical school’s marketing and public relations strategy.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement marketing, advertising, and communications strategy to support organizational objectives.
    • Design, develop, produce, and distribute marketing and communications materials.
    • Source and select appropriate promotional products to support organizational marketing strategies.
    • Research, write, edit, and produce clear and compelling marketing and public relations pieces for print, web, and social media.
    • Develop and maintain database tools.
    • Track marketing outcomes and prepare marketing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing appropriate data.
    • Coordinate and plan events by identifying, assembling, and coordinating requirements; establishing contacts; developing schedules and assignments; coordinating mailing/attendees lists.
    • Ensure messaging supports the WMed brand, image, and strategies.
    • List maintenance and template creation in MailChimp email marketing system.
    • Assist with writing press releases, speeches, and statements.
    • Availability to work occasional overtime to meet deadlines required.
    • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
    • All other related duties and special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, advertising, business, communications, or related field.
    • A minimum of two years of experience and demonstrated success in marketing, public relations, or advertising.
    • Prior experience in an academic or healthcare setting is preferred.
    • Analytical and creative mind that will aid in identifying and capitalizing upon opportunities for furthering the medical school’s mission.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deliver timely results.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to form and maintain positive work relationships.
    • Experience in web, social media, and other electronic communications and preparing copy appropriate for all platforms.
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills, including the ability to write for a variety of audiences and communications mediums.
    • Knowledge and proficiency in word processing and file management Microsoft Office Suite, multi-media tools, electronic communications, and web searching as well as and other software as required by the department.
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
    • Proficiency in using Mac computers.

The School of Medicine Clinics are housed in a modern 60,000 square foot clinical building on the Oakland Drive Campus and are accredited by The Joint Commission with recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
