  • Overview

    Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine has an opportunity for an On-Call Simulation Laboratory Assistant.  Responsible for providing physical maintenance of the Medical Simulation Laboratories.  This includes the care and keeping of the various manikins and the care of both disposable and non-disposable equipment related to the Simulation Labs. This position supports education programs and any operations that make use of the School of Medicine Simulation Laboratory. 



    • Performs activities intended for the enhancement of the simulation educational environment. These would include; set-up/clean-up of the labs, organization of the laboratories equipment and supplies, cleaning and care of simulation equipment including manikins.
    • Provide logistical support of School of Medicine/American Heart Association sponsored Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support training programs.
    • Collaborates with faculty to provide a high quality environment for undergraduate, graduate, and allied health educational simulation programs.
    • Provides support of on-site consultation to regional departments and agencies using the simulation laboratories and equipment.
    • Provides support in the training/certifying those who will use the simulation equipment unsupervised from other departments and agencies (i.e. train the trainer).
    • Provides the maintenance and upkeep of the simulation laboratories and equipment (including the WMed Simulation Lab at Borgess).
    • Availability to work part-time schedule on weekdays or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
    • Willingness to acquire knowledge of new technologies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    • Enrollment in a post-secondary education program related to a healthcare field
    • Bachelor’s degree enrollment preferred
    • Healthcare education experience a plus
    • Driver’s License required
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification required
    • CPR Instructor certification a plus
    • First Aid or related certification a plus

The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
