Overview

We are seeking highly-motivated candidates to join Dr. Yu Zhang’s lab at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine.

Dr. Yu Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Investigative Medicine. She received her Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology and her M.D. from Capital Medical University (China). She received her postdoctoral training with Dr. Frederick Alt at Harvard Medical School.

The focus of the Zhang lab is to identify mechanisms that promote antibody diversification and suppress associated oncogenic lesions in B lymphocytes. The numerous antibodies in our body are generated through a process called antibody diversification and play a pivotal role in protecting us from infectious diseases and cancer. Conversely, abnormal antibody diversification underlies diseases ranging from immunodeficiency to autoimmunity and contributes to oncogenic translocations in various leukemias and lymphomas. Therefore, understanding antibody diversification can provide fundamental mechanistic insights for these diseases and fulfill the knowledge gap that is critical for therapeutic target design for lymphoid cancers. The Zhang lab will address key questions of mechanisms of both the protective and pathogenic effect of antibody diversification employing various state of art approaches, including CRIPSR/Cas9 mediated genome manipulation and various next generation sequencing techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Order and maintain lab reagents.
  • Highly involved in research projects that include but are not limited to: learn new research techniques, perform experiments under guidance, oral and written presentation of research progress.

Qualifications

Highly motivated and responsible candidates are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant biological science field such as Biology, Bioengineering and Biochemistry. Previous experience in a relevant research laboratory will be valued but not required. Successful applicants are expected to be well-organized, highly collaborative and quick in learning new laboratory techniques.

Interested and qualified applicants should apply online at https://careers-wmich.icims.com/jobs/1607/research-laboratory-technician/job and/or by sending his/her CV directly to Dr. Zhang at yu.zhang@med.wmich.edu. All other open positions are located on our main website at www.med.wmich.edu.
