Under the direction of the associate dean for Administration and Finance, responsible for the administration and management of the organization's human resources and occupational health functions for WMed and West Michigan AirCare. Directs the planning, development, implementation, and administration of all human resources management functions including employment, compensation and benefits, employee relations, equal employment opportunity, the human resources information system, and training programs.  Advises management on policy matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions.  Serves as Title IX Coordinator.


  • Directs and mentors human resources leaders and their direct reports.
  • Develops and directs the organization's salary administration program.
  • Develops and directs the position description, employee competency, and appraisal programs.
  • Directs the organization's employment activities.
  • Directs the organization's benefit programs.
  • Directs and oversees the organization’s employee relations programs.
  • Directs and oversees the human resources information system (HRIS).
  • Dotted line oversight of occupational health office functions for HR related decisions and issues.
  • Assists with employee relations issues; consults with supervisors and employees regarding interpretation of practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides assistance with conflict resolution as necessary.
  • Assists with internal investigations from complaint to conclusion.
  • Consults with supervisors, when necessary, in conflict resolution.
  • Directs the development and coordination of an employee training program based on organizational needs.
  • Performs the financial management activities pertaining to the preparation of the annual department budget.
  • Develops and manages quality assurance protocols and systems for department.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors compliance to organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for medical provider credentialing and privileging process.
  • Serves as Equal Employment Opportunity Coordinator.
  • Directs the activities of the affirmative action program.
  • Develops and implements strategic initiatives for recruiting diverse talent.
  • Serves as Title IX Coordinator.
  • Oversees the Title IX Deputy Coordinators.
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the “Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act,” also known as “The Clery Act.” Completes annual CSA training as required to maintain knowledge of campus safety and security policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for managing the full cycle of the recruiting process to meet the various staffing needs across all levels of the organization.
  • Develops strong relationships to collaborate effectively with hiring supervisors.
  • Directs the continuous assessment of HR workflows, processes, and practices. Recommends proposals for changes or improvements.
  • Responsible for all stages of employment for faculty and staff including new hires, change of status, and terminations.
  • Conducts research, analyzes data, and prepares written and statistical reports and recommendations for a variety of HR related issues and topics.
  • Responsible for all follow through with pay and position requests including replacement positions, new positions, career ladders, temporary staffing, compensation reviews, and job descriptions changes.
  • Responsible for all immigration needs of residents, staff, and faculty.
  • Flexibility in work schedule.
  • Availability to work on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of relevant human resources management experience and/or Master’s degree and 7 years of relevant human resources management experience required.
  • Medical School or University human resources experience preferred.
  • Change management experience preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of human resources functions including recruitment, salary and benefit administration, performance assessment, labor law compliance, and employee relations.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications:

  • Certification as a Title IX Coordinator required or obtained within one year in position.
  • Certification through SHRM or HRCI preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, and the ability to interpret and apply as required.
  • Well-developed knowledge of human resources functions including methodologies, workflows and reporting tools.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to employment.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaborative skills required.
  • Ability to independently meet multiple deadlines.
  • Maintains current knowledge of employment practices and labor laws.

The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.


The W.E.
