Overview

WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to join the dynamic Information Technology team. This employee must have a diverse background concerning computer operations support. This person should understand how to maintain the integrity and reliability of a computer system, perform preventive maintenance, install software, resolve database problems and perform backup and recovery functions.  

Responsibilities

  • Administration and support of Microsoft 365 services.
  • Administration and support of Identity Management suite.
  • Administration and support of other software products and services as assigned.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Apply OS and application patches and upgrades on a regular basis.
  • Availability to work on weekends or evenings to complete time-sensitive projects and tasks.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, with a technical major and/or a minimum three years’ experience in systems administration.
  • Solid technical knowledge with current versions of Windows, Windows Server, Microsoft 365.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Management of Microsoft 365 services.
  • Identity Management design and administration.
  • Windows Server and application administration.
  • Familiarity with NetApp NAS/Storage solutions, VMWare vSphere.
  • Understanding of server-side security practices.
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in using personal computer equipment and related software.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn software packages as needed.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.

WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.

 

The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
