Overview

Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine is seeking an IT Project Manager. Responsible for creating, implementing, and supporting projects within the WMed organization.

Responsibilities

Work with leadership to create, implement, and monitor projects which includes but not limited to:

  • Discuss potential projects and their parameters with clients, executives, and software developers.
  • Plan out the blueprints for projects, including defining the scope, allocating resources, setting deadlines,
    laying out communication strategies, and indicating tests, implementation and maintenance.
  • Lead the project team.
  • Participate in and supervise each stage of the project.
  • Ensuring each project stays on schedule and adheres to the deadlines.
  • Work with leadership in creating a project budget and ensuring the project adheres to the budget as
    closely as possible.
  • Determining and overseeing consistent testing, evaluation, and troubleshooting of all products in all
    stages of completion.
  • Tracking milestones, deliverables, and change requests.
  • Serving as a liaison to communicate information regarding changes, milestones reached, and other
    pertinent information.
  • Delivering completed projects to clients and performing regular checks on performance.
  • Trains team(s) on utilization of project outcome
  • Act as liaison between WMed administrative teams and vendors
  • Availability to work on weekends and evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, business, software engineering, or
    related field required.
  • Three years related experience with project management, preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.

Additional skills preferred:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to navigate in an environment with both
    highly technical and highly non-technical individuals.
  • Solid knowledge of regulatory standards (HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA, etc).
  • Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines.
  • Delegating project tasks to employees best positioned to complete them.
  • Making effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project.
  • Serving as a point of contact for teams when multiple units are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy.
  • Communicating with leadership to keep the project aligned with goals.
  • Performing quality control on the project throughout development to maintain the standards expected.
  • Adjusting schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing for the project change.
  • Desire to work with a fast-paced project team focused on compliance, structure and function.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) required or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in using personal computer equipment and related software.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in grammar and spelling skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn software packages as needed.
  • Leadership skills, decisiveness, problem-solving skills, ability to delegate effectively.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.

The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.

 

The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
