Overview

WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine (WMed) is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join the finance department. The Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of routine accounting duties. Prepares bank deposits and reconciles to subsidiary ledgers. Responsible for performing activities associated with patient accounts receivable. Assists with activities necessary to process vendor bills and employee expenses through the accounts payable/cash disbursement system. Responsible to cover other accounting functions, such as receiving and handling all incoming packages, on an as needed basis. Refers difficult problems to higher level.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciliation between patient related deposits and postings to subsidiary ledger.
  • Responsible for processing other accounts receivable deposits.
  • Responsible for scanning explanation of benefits and entering into EPIC.
  • Work accounts receivable projects and ques in EPIC primarily working aged account ques.
  • Verifies patient insurance and third-party coverage information.
  • Reviews vendor bills and supporting documentation before submission
  • Provide coverage for the receiving docks as needed.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with other accounting projects.
  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of personal computing systems and a basic to advanced knowledge of software packages including Excel or other spreadsheet programs also required.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to operate automated standard office equipment such as multi-line phone system, calculator, copier, fax machine, shredder, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
