Overview

Responsible for the day-to-day operations and implementation of Standardized Patient (SP) events for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME), Graduate Level Education (GME) and our external partners. Programing and troubleshooting audio/video recording system for any event or simulation involving SPs. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Demonstrates principles of adult learning.
  • Working knowledge of the roles and functions of all aspects of the standardized patient program, to include the educational software systems.
  • Assist in the assessment of communication skills for all learners to include Undergraduate and Graduate levels (UME/GME).
  • Prepares the facility, audiovisual systems, equipment and supplies for SP events; ensuring supplies and materials properly stored and shuts down equipment after the event.
  • Performs videotape recording, duplication, mixing and editing.
  • Assist in the programming and video-recording of SP events
  • Monitor inventory and allocate specific equipment and supplies used in SP and simulation events
  • Support Quality Improvement of the SP program with regard to SP Performance evaluation in REDCAP
  • Assist in Simulation Center operations when directed
  • Exhibits a commitment to the values expressed in the WMed mission, vision and values.
  • Supports the short, intermediate and long-term educational and research goals of the Simulation Center.
  • Assures regulatory compliance with Simulation Center activities.
  • Provides detailed feedback (verbal and written) on learner performance
  • Assists in programming, testing, and running simulations involving standardized patients.
  • Assists with organization of equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot problems with equipment as it pertains to the SP program and clinical procedures software systems
  • Supports/assists in role playing, applications, props placement, and moulage set-up to create a virtual health care environment and experience.
  • Assists in collecting utilization statistics for SP events and training.
  • Available to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new Standardized Patients

Inventory Operations and Backup Support:

 

Technical Operations

  • Understands the use of different simulation technologies and educational software used in the Simulation Center, ranging from screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators.
  • Attends conferences periodically to stay current with simulation technology.

Training

  • Provides training and technical support for the computer-based recording system and operating platforms for those who will use the equipment.
  • Provides training and technical support for the computer-based recording systems (i.e., SIMIQ or SIM Station) and learner assessment software (i.e., REDCAP, Elentra).
  • Demonstrates, teaches, and supports technical aspects of operating simulators to faculty and staff as needed.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree in education, healthcare, arts or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Six months of experience in standardized patient role, simulation or medical education, required
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with medical simulation and/or computer-based instruction and e-learning is highly

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, proven ability to work with others, and to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of simulation/acting skills
  • Excellent training and/or adult teaching skills
  • Proficiency in PC and Mac-based computer software applications, including Microsoft Office, and proficiency in associated hardware.
  • Strong analytical, interpretive, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
