Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is recruiting EMS faculty members to support the EMS Fellowship Program and the expanding activities of the Division of EMS and Disaster Medicine.  WMed is one of the newest medical schools in the U.S. and has one of the largest emergency medicine residency programs in the nation.  WMed's EMS Fellowship Program was among the first ACGME-accredited EMS Fellowships.  WMed residents and fellows are integrally involved in the county wide EMS system, with dedicated resident and fellow EMS response vehicles.   The WMed Division of EMS and Disaster Medicine provides a wide variety of services including medical direction, education, research, and health-care preparedness.  The Kalamazoo County Medical Control Authority (KCMCA) is the state-designed agency responsible for coordinating all aspects of the county-wide EMS system.  KCMCA is housed within the Division, allowing for full integration between WMed and the EMS system.  The Division houses the 5th District Medical Response Coalition (5DMRC), a 9-county consortium of hospitals, EMS, public health, emergency management, and others dedicated to cross-jurisdictional, interdisciplinary disaster planning and response.  The 5DMRC was designated by the CDC as a model for preparedness and collaboration.  5DMRC and the Division operate a mobile medical field unit on behalf of the State of Michigan.  The Division additionally coordinates Michigan's National Disaster Life Support Program activities.  The State EMS Data Manager is housed within the Division, making access to over 8 million EMS records readily available for research and quality improvement.   As a new medical school, WMed is an exciting environment to pursue an academic career.  WMed has a large, state-of-the art Simulation Center, extensive resources to support research, and abundant opportunities for teaching students, residents, and EMS providers.  Kalamazoo's two hospitals serve as regional tertiary care centers for southwest Michigan, serving a population of approximately 1 million.  Kalamazoo is a wonderful city, located midway between Chicago and Detroit and a short distance from Lake Michigan.  The Kalamazoo Promise is a nationally renowned program in which graduates of Kalamazoo Public Schools receive free tuition to attend public and private colleges in Michigan.  Michigan provides extensive entertainment and recreational activities, including great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Our Oakland Drive Clinic and Family Health Center Clinic have received patient-centered medical home certification from the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA). Our ACGME accredited 8-8-8 residency is the only one in the state to be housed completely in an FQHC, and our Chair and Residency Program Director is Co-Chief Medical Officer. WMed enrolled its first class of medical students in August 2014, which provides our faculty with the unique opportunity to be actively involved in the formation of a new school.  It’s an exciting time to be teaching medicine in Kalamazoo, and you can be part of it!

The Department of Family and Community Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) continues to lead change for health care in Michigan. An exciting new opportunity to be a founding faculty member of a 6-6-6 family medicine residency in Battle Creek, MI, is now available. This program will be sponsored by Bronson Battle Creek and will be partnering with Grace Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Battle Creek, where the Family Medicine Practice will be located.    The inaugural class of residents will enter training in July, 2018.  The faculty hired for this position will be integral in establishing the clinical practice base for the residency.  Scope of practice should demonstrate the breadth of family medicine and include obstetrics, outpatient care and inpatient care.   This program joins the established WMed Family Medicine Residency in Kalamazoo, whose Family Medicine Practice is at the Family Health Center Clinic as well as the Oakland Drive Clinic, who have received patient-centered medical home certification from the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA). The Bronson Hospital - Battle Creek Family Medicine Residency will join the Kalamazoo program as one of only 2 ACGME accredited residencies in the state to be housed completely in an FQHC.    WMed enrolled its first class of medical students in August 2014, which provides our faculty with the unique opportunity to be actively involved in the formation of a new school.  As a newer, smaller medical school, the opportunities for research, involvement in committees, all levels of medical education and advancement abound.  It is a great time to be teaching medicine in Southwestern Michigan!
