WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine is seeking a Senior Budget and Financial Analyst. The Senior Budget and Financial Analyst performs a broad range of planning and analysis for WMed and affiliated companies. Monitors actual results of financial data against plans and budgets, determines trends, and explains financial results. Prepares detailed reports and presentations for review by all levels of management. Also, provides moderately complex financial analyses and reports as needed. Analyzes financial data by collecting, monitoring, and creating budgets and benchmarks, determines trends and helps to explain results. Gathers, organizes and documents relevant financial information. Provides oversight and coordination of operating reports and statutory filings for assigned functional areas. Leads and manages projects and continuous improvement efforts as defined by Administration, using standard approach (define, plan, implement, and monitor). Provides analytical expertise and comparative analysis to support complex decision-making by Administration. Act as a team lead to finance and procurement staff.
Areas of focus may include:
Faculty compensation analysis
Assists Associate Dean of Administration and Finance in implementing and overseeing elements of the Physician Compensation Program, to include quantitative and qualitative analysis of healthcare and financial data, annual compensation calculations, oversight of payroll approvals and financial accruals, benchmarking of faculty and physician comp and productivity statistics, budgeting physician data (labor budget, revenue budget, and statistical budget); assists with decision support for financial proformas; provides construction of databases and reports.
Revenue cycle analysis:
Reviews and monitors the overall financial status of clinical revenue from services provided in clinical settings. Reviews, designs, and implements processes for pricing and performs financial analyses to ensure that the clinical revenue cycle is effective.
Management and monitoring of state sponsored programs:
Regular review for program participation eligibility and required attestations. Reconciliation of funds flow and calculation of fund distribution to participants.

Two kinds of projects are available. 1) Molecular Immunology—encompasses study of B1 cell development and function, including the role of human B1 cells and natural antibody in health and disease; BCR signaling pathways including receptor crosstalk and the IL-4-induced alternate pathway; B cell pathogenesis in lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune dyscrasias; B cells and aging, including atherosclerosis and infectious diseases. 2) Cellular Proteostasis—encompasses study of stress- and mutation-related protein aggregation including novel assays for protein oligomers; mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases associated with dysfunctional protein aggregation; mechanism of aggregation prevention and aggregation resolution by the unique protein, FAIM.

This employee will be responsible for supporting the research project of the Lieber Institute for Brain Development (LIBD) by reviewing and interpreting investigative and medical records to determine suitability for referral of recent deaths to LIBD. The employee will be responsible for obtaining, preparing, and preserving human brain tissue, collaborating with the Office of the Medical Examiner, collaborating with funeral directors in Michigan, recovering brains both at WMed and at funeral homes, dissecting the brains, obtaining photographs, and shipping human tissue to the LIBD. Travel to funeral homes and other locations will be required to recover tissue from a decedent. The hours for this position will be somewhat irregular. Regularly working weekends and holidays on a rotation with others is required as the activities occur 365 days per year. On certain days, participation with other activities in the Department of Pathology may be required.
