Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine is recruiting for an Core Clerkship Coordinator. The core clerkship coordinator position will act as a first point of contact and liaison for all medical students, faculty, residents, community faculty, site personnel and school administration, and must be knowledgeable about medical education in general, the clerkship, the student programs within the medical school, and its relationship with other clerkships within the medical school. This role will retrieve, maintain, and tabulate the records of student performance for each clerkship rotation, and must ensure that all aspects of the clerkship operate in a smooth, timely, and professional manner. It is expected that this position will understand the curricular goals, policies, and standards of the specific clerkship, department, and medical school.

WMed is one of the newest U.S. Medical schools and continues to achieve great successes on the journey to excellence.  With the retirement of the founding Dean, Dr. Hal B. Jensen, the new Dean will lead the organization through the next strategic planning process and so have significant impact on the school’s future direction and national impact. The medical school is a collaboration of Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo’s two teaching health systems – Ascension Borgess and Bronson Healthcare. The medical school is a private 501(c)(3), supported by private gifts, clinical revenues, research activities, tuition and endowment income.   The inaugural class graduated in 2018 after completing an innovative, patient-centered, four-year curriculum. WMed offers three Master of Science degree programs in Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Informatics, and Medical Engineering. More than 200 residents and fellows train in ten residencies and five accredited fellowships. WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 330 providers (including residents and fellows) offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services.

The Department of Psychiatry, Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a faculty-level psychologist or neuropsychologist to join its growing academic department. The department currently has 16 full-time academic employed faculty members. The psychiatry residency program is a fully accredited program with 24 residents (6 per year with accreditation up to 8 per year). This is a well-established residency program that is looking to expand and enhance psychiatric clinical services, research, and both medical student and resident training. There are significant clinical and research collaborations with community mental health care (SWMBH and ICS), the VA system (BCVHA), and collaborative care psychiatry arrangements with a number of WMed Health, Bronson, and Ascension Borgess primary care, family medicine, and pediatric practice groups.   The Department of Psychiatry is currently in a rapid growth phase with development of several community clinical collaborations and program enhancements. Progress has been made in developing funding for four endowed faculty positions and program development. One of the endowed professorships will be for the Chair of the Department and the other three endowed professorships and the three endowed fellowships will be in each of the priority areas (emergency psychiatry, child/perinatal psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry). Building on a 20-year legacy of excellent residency training, the Department is now poised for the initiation of fellowship training and expansion of collaborative care and tele-psychiatry.

The recently formed Division of Geriatrics of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position in geriatric medicine. Applications for positions at the level of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor will be considered. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience.   The Division of Geriatrics is a new division within the medical school, jointly affiliated with both the the Department of Medicine  and the Department of Family and Community Medicine and also has close ties to the Program of Medical Ethics, Law and Humanities . The faculty member will have the unique opportunity of playing a vital role in helping to shape the models of care for older people in Kalamazoo and the surrounding area. In addition the faculty member will be expected to engage in resident and student education, and other scholarly activities. The successful candidate will also work to grow the clinical services of the division.   Southwest Michigan, like many areas of the United States, is in need of geriatricians. Our community partners, Bronson Methodist Hospital, Ascension Borgess Hospital, and Senior Care Partners PACE are actively enlarging their services for older patients; the members of the Division will practice at these clinical sites, as well as the newly formed Geriatrics Clinic at WMed. There is also potential to start new programs in other settings, like nursing homes and home visits.

The Department of Family and Community Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) continues to lead change for health care in Michigan. An exciting new opportunity to be a founding faculty member of a 6-6-6 family medicine residency in Battle Creek, MI, is now available. This program will be sponsored by Bronson Battle Creek and will be partnering with Grace Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Battle Creek, where the Family Medicine Practice will be located.    The inaugural class of residents will enter training in July, 2019.  The faculty hired for this position will be integral in establishing the clinical practice base for the residency.  Scope of practice should demonstrate the breadth of family medicine and include obstetrics, outpatient and inpatient care.   This program joins the established WMed Family Medicine Residency in Kalamazoo, whose Family Medicine Practice is at the Family Health Center Clinic as well as the Oakland Drive Clinic, who have received patient-centered medical home certification from the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA). The Bronson Hospital - Battle Creek Family Medicine Residency will join the Kalamazoo program as one of only 2 ACGME accredited residencies in the state to be housed completely in an FQHC.    WMed enrolled its first class of medical students in August 2014, which provides our faculty with the unique opportunity to be actively involved in the formation of a new school.  As a newer, smaller medical school, the opportunities for research, involvement in committees, all levels of medical education and advancement abound.  It is a great time to be teaching medicine in Southwestern Michigan!

The Department of Family and Community Medicine at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is leading change in our Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the Family Health Center of Kalamazoo (http://www.fhckzoo.com) with the patient-centered medical home model, performance improvement initiatives, and lean methods for improving operating efficiency. Our Oakland Drive Clinic and Family Health Center Clinic have received patient-centered medical home certification from the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA). Our ACGME accredited 8-8-8 residency is the only one currently in the state that is based completely in an FQHC. We are also seeking ACGME accreditation for our new 6-6-6 residency in Battle Creek.
